NESS WINS MAYOR’S SEAT! Now our work begins.
Don’s Acceptance Speech at Election Night Party:
I want to thank you all for your support, for your hard work, thank you for your friendship, and more importantly, thank you for believing in our ability to create a better Duluth. Now our work begins.
Let’s enjoy this night, let’s enjoy our success, but hold firmly in mind that the reason why we went through the last eight months. And that is to make real, tangible change for the City of Duluth. Our goal is not to win an election; our goal is to make Duluth a better place to live, to work, and to conduct business. And that effort begins now.
And while we enjoy this celebration, let’s keep in mind that the real celebration will take place when we solve the retiree health care crisis. When we pass a new modern zoning code. When we instill a new culture of service and innovation in city government. And most importantly, when we establish civility and trust and cooperation as the main tenants in our community discussions. The real celebration will take place when Duluthians believe in the promise of our future.
I want to point out that Charlie Bell is a good person and an important leader in our community. And he ran an honorable campaign. Charlie has tremendous support in our community and it is support that he has earned. It is incumbent upon everyone to reach out to Charlie and his supporters and bring our community together behind these common goals.
We have common goals in the City of Duluth. Whether you are a Bell supporter or a Ness supporter, what we want to do is create a better Duluth and it is incumbent upon us to reach out and bring them into our camp to move Duluth forward.
